More to Know

Procedures & Methods

Dear Wisdom Tree Families,

Welcome! Below you’ll find important information to help you and your child have a smooth and successful school year with us. Please read carefully and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Separation & Emotions

It is completely normal for children to experience separation anxiety. Some may cry or become upset during drop-off—this is part of the adjustment process and may occur on the first day or even a few days into the program. Other children may show no signs at all. Rest assured, we provide each child with the support and comfort they need. If your child is particularly distressed, we will call you once they have settled into the classroom.

Please also know that it’s common for children to cry at pick-up as well. Seeing their parents again can bring on a wave of emotions that are hard to express, and this is completely normal.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

All drop-offs and pick-ups take place at the front door. Due to space limitations, parents are not permitted inside the school.

  • Doors open promptly at the start of class (e.g., 9:00 AM). Please arrive on time, as teachers are setting up beforehand and are unable to open the doors early.
  • For dismissal (e.g., 2:30 PM), please be outside and ready for pick-up.
  • If you are running late, please call the school to inform us. Repeated lateness (more than three times) will incur a fee of $1 per minute.
Health & Safety

To help minimize germs, children will use hand sanitizer upon entering the classroom and before snack time.

If your child is sick and sent home from school, they may return after 24 hours without a doctor’s note. To return the very next day, a doctor’s note is required. This policy ensures the health and safety of all students and staff.

Children must be:

  • Fever-free for 24 hours without medication
  • On antibiotics for 24 hours (if prescribed)
  • 24 hours free from symptoms or reactions that could indicate illness without medication

If your child has lice, they may not return to school without documentation from a professional lice removal service (e.g., Lice Clinics of America or Lice Doctors). A doctor’s note alone is not sufficient, as these providers specialize in lice detection and removal.

Backpacks & Personal Items

Each child should bring a large backpack containing:

  • A complete change of clothes
  • Diapers or pull-ups (if needed)

All items must be labeled clearly.

Snack & Food Guidelines

All snacks and drinks must be packed in a clearly labeled lunchbox. If a lunchbox is not labeled, we will label it ourselves to ensure safety and organization during snack time.

Please note:

  • We are a peanut-free and nut-free school.
  • Due to choking hazards, the following foods are not allowed: popcorn, celery, carrots, hot dogs/meats, meat sticks/jerky, beans, corn, peas.
  • Please cut up grapes, strawberries, apples, cucumbers, and cheese sticks.
Supplies

You will receive a supply list from your child’s lead teacher. We will provide two designated days before the start of school for supply drop-off. Please label all supplies with your child’s name.

Throughout the year, we may request additional items. Donations of the following are always appreciated:

  • Copy paper
  • Baby wipes
  • Tissues
  • Clorox wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Ziplock bags
Communication
  • Please ensure you are receiving emails from us. If not, let your lead teacher know.
  • Check your child’s communication folder daily for classroom work and important notes.
  • Toys used during class are cleaned after each use to maintain hygiene.
Tuition & Registration
  • Tuition is due by the 1st of each month. Payments received after the 3rd will incur a $35 late fee.
  • Payments may be made by check (to WT Of Miller Place INC) or cash (receipt provided).
  • If you anticipate a late payment, please communicate with us in advance to avoid the late fee.

Registration Requirements:

  • Registration fee + June’s tuition is due at enrollment.
  • September tuition is paid at the start of the school year.
  • For mid-year enrollments, June’s tuition and the registration fee are due upfront. Tuition for the start month is due by the 15th of that month. Payment plans are available upon request.

Please note: The registration fee and June’s tuition are non-refundable, as stated in the payment agreement.

Before Care & Aftercare

We offer 30 minutes of before or aftercare for classes that are 2.5 hours in length (not available for our 3-hour afternoon class). This is billed separately from tuition. Please notify us at least one week in advance if you would like to utilize this service. Daily and monthly rates are available. You may choose either before or aftercare, but not both.

Required Documents Before the First Day

Please bring the following to the Meet and Greet:

  • Updated immunization record
  • A copy of the driver’s license for anyone authorized to pick up your child
  • Any custody or pickup restriction letters/agreements
  • If applicable: EpiPen instructions and forms (please contact us in advance)
School Closings

In case of inclement weather or school closings, information will be posted on:

  • News 12
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Remind App / Homeroom App
  • Email

If Miller Place School District is closed, we will be closed as well.

Celebrations & Special Events

Birthday Celebrations:

We love celebrating birthdays—even summer ones! To arrange a celebration, please contact your lead teacher via the Remind App or leave a note in your child’s communication folder. Give at least one week’s notice. All treats must be store-bought with visible ingredients.

Classroom Parties:

For each party, 2–3 parents will be invited into the classroom. We ensure that each child has the opportunity for one parent to attend, if desired. A sign-up sheet for party participation and needed items will be posted at the door one week in advance.

Secret Reader:

We also offer a “Secret Reader” opportunity for parents who would like to read to the class. Again, we make sure each child can have one parent participate if they wish.

Donations Welcome

We gratefully accept donations of gently used books and toys. If you’re cleaning out the playroom, think of us!
